Homeschool Memoirs #5

THEME:
Since I’ve been making you work really hard on the previous Memoir themes I decided to take a little break, and do something fun! This week I want to invite you to share a few of your favourite things - er - sites. I know the list of favourite things could be never-ending, but I’ve made a list for you to do regarding your favourite homeschool things.

Magazines/Carnivals - Blissfully Domestic
Freebie sites - Currclick (homeschool freebies) today it's a free slavery lapbook
Homeschool news/informative- I don't really know any that I can think of
Forums/book clubs - I have two forums I visit...I'm not sharing though
Networking, Blog “About” - there isn't a particular site I visit for this

Mom site - again, not sharing...it's a local site, so most wouldn't be interested anyway
Inspirational/encouraging/motivational - Bring The Rain this chick is so inspirational, such a good heart and spirit
Youth/kid - I don't go to kid's sites really. I do visit Family Fun a lot, does that count?

Organizing/crafts - again, Family Fun
Homemaking/Homesteading - The Family Homestead. I have loved this website for several years now and Crystal is a really sweet person to talk to.
Bible-focused - Living Proof Ministries blog. (there are 2 links there, blog is seperate from the LPM website) I love Beth Moore. I would love to drive down to Houston sometime to attend a service at the First Baptist Church.
Homeschool Method - Little Acorn Learning. Well, I have to say that the method we use is more Charlotte Mason than anything else. BUT, I do appreciate the Waldorf method and this is a great site about it. And the owner is super nice. When I couldn't get my guide to download she actually called me and we figured out what I (yes I said I) was doing wrong.
Family blog - this was hard. I like too many blog's for different reasons. Here are a few of the ones I visit most often, in no particular order...

I'm getting aggravated at Blogger because I am trying to fix the spacing on the links and it won't let me. Oh well...errr

If you were deserted on an island

what 3 things would you bring with you?

It didn't take me long to figure out my three things. I thought about this recently when I was watching Big Brother. The only reading material they are allowed (besides the rule manual) is a bible. What a great choice. It has drama, romance, death, action, lessons to be learned. It is the perfect book.

1. Bible-for the above stated reasons.

2. ginormous (I think that's a real word) notebook & pen (with a lot of ink)- what a great time to read the bible and reflect. Can you imagine how many wonderous insights you would have after being alone with just your thoughts and God? I wonder how much His word would speak to you when it was over. I wonder if you would even want to go back to real life.

3. my camera with unlimited memory and batteries- do you like how specific that is? lol The camera thing should be a no-brainer for anyone who knows me. I think that I could possibly forget how to breathe without my camera. It's my lifeline.

Okay, where is this island? I'm ready to go!!

Homeschool Memoirs #3

I hope last week’s theme helped you get a bigger view and maybe some ideas about different ways to homeschool or curriculum. There is so much to share and so I hope this helped, especially the new homeschoolers, narrow things down a bit. I am sure some of you are still getting into your homeschool routines. I know some people are very routine oriented while others may be more “day-by-day”, and it all depends on your family and what works best for your life-style. This week please post what your planned homeschool routine is. The theme banner should give you some ideas on how to do that. I had fun making that and adding in real info (except for the times! lol).

Okay, I don't have a nice pretty chart to show what our routine is. We are relaxed this year. I am so anal retentive about thing's being a certain way that it caused way too much stress last year. So this year we have a way better outlook on our school day.

Let me start by saying that we do not have a set in stone schedule. We generally start our school day around 11 am. As time goes on I would like the time to move up earlier but this time works really good for us. That way we are done by 3 pm.

We don't do every subject every day. Here is a basic rundown of our week:

All 3 kids-

PE Mon, Wed, Fri

Monday-Friday

Bible

Language Arts

Math

Anthony-

Science Wed-Fri

History Mon-Fri

Art Thurs-Fri

Writing depends on the lesson, can be 3 days long, can be 9 days long

The Girl's-

Science varies, typically Mon-Tue (weather & temp is everyday)

History Tue-Wed

Art Thurs-Fri

Lapbooks varies because they either match history, science or literature

It seems confusing but it's easy to read in my planner. Aaron and I talked about the idea of having no school on Wednesday's because there are so many activities going on. But for this semester we will have school on Wed.'s. Next semester I am hoping to be in a co-op and Wed. is the day they have their classes.
