Homeschool Memoirs #4

Planning your homeschool is a lot of fun, especially if you’re going to be trying something new. Just like finding a shiny new penny you’re excited to use it. This week I hope you’ll share something new you’re using, why you’ve decided to use it, and if you have used it how you like it. Make sure to include the publishing information and where you got it from so others can look into if they like.

Okay, the new thing that we are using this year is our language arts curriculum. We are using a bunch of new stuff but this one I really like, so it's what I'm gonna talk about.

After looking through the material's at the Arlington homeschool fair back in May, I decided to go with Learning Language Arts Through Literature program for all 3 kid's. Anthony is in 7th grade and using the green book and Emma is 1st grade using the blue book. Sara was supposed to do her own language arts this year but she seems to be able to keep up with us, so as long as she is, she will use the blue book as well.

What I like about the series is that the lesson's are short. My kid's don't have a huge attention span but they are able to absorb the information and take it with them day after day. I read the reviews of the blue book and a lot of people didn't think that it was advanced enough and had to start their child at a higher level. Well, my daughter is dyslexic and has learning disabilities and this book is perfect for her.

The point of the blue book is to teach the kids to read. And it does it in such a way that they don't even realize it. It's great. The green book is a little easy for Anthony, but it is the start of the year and the lesson's do get harder and longer. That is pretty much any curriculum though. Not overwhelming the first couple of week's.

Anyways, that is our new curriculum and how we like it. You can check out the website here.

I use LLATL too. We've used A Beka forever, and I think my 5th grader is enjoying the break into a new format. I also like the book studies that are in the 5th grade book. I think that's important in that age. :-)
